Matthew Clayton is a dedicated public servant, firefighter/paramedic, husband, father, and grandfather who has devoted more than twenty years to serving his community on the front lines of emergency response. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation for strong leadership, unwavering integrity, and a deep commitment to protecting and helping others in their most critical moments.

Matthew currently serves as a Lieutenant Firefighter/Paramedic, where he responds to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and disasters across the community. In his leadership role, he manages emergency scenes, operates fire apparatus, and prioritizes the safety of his crew and the public. Along with fighting fires, he provides advanced life support and emergency medical care. His specialized training includes hazardous materials response, technical rescue, dive rescue, swift water rescue, and structural collapse response. He has also served as an aircraft rescue firefighter, a fireboat operator, and a wildland firefighter. 

Over the years, Matthew has earned numerous certifications, including Fire Officer credentials, paramedic licensure, and advanced technical rescue training. He serves on the MABAS Division 201 - Indiana District 2 US&R Technical Rescue Team and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration and Emergency Management.

Beyond his professional duties, Matthew is deeply engaged in his community. He has coached youth sports, served on community medical teams, and contributed to public safety education initiatives. He is passionate about giving back and investing in the next generation.

For more than 20 years, Matthew has run toward danger while others ran away - comforting families in crisis, saving lives, and protecting property. These experiences have given him direct insight into how government decisions impact working families, public safety professionals, and taxpayers.

Matthew is running for St. Joseph County Council District B because he stands for responsible leadership, fiscal accountability, and advocating for the people he serves. He is committed to protecting taxpayers, supporting county employees, strengthening public safety, improving infrastructure, and promoting smart, sustainable economic growth.

Matthew Clayton believes public office is not about politics – it’s about people. His career has been built on service, sacrifice, and protecting his community. Now he’s ready to continue that mission by serving the residents of St. Joseph County and fighting for their interests, their families, and their future.
